Meralco seeks EPC contractor for Subic coal-fired plant
Engineering, procurement and construction contractor.
Meralco is still negotiating on who between two parties will fill this role for its 600-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Subic.
Meralco president Oscar S. Reyes noted that the major development being awaited is still the issuance of its environmental compliance certificate, which is anticipated before this year ends.
It was gathered that one of the parties Meralco is negotiating with is the Hyundai Group of South Korea; while the other is reportedly an American firm.
It must be noted that the facility’s first unit of 300-MW was already issued previously an ECC, but the second unit must also go through the same process for its ECC.
Project sponsors are already anticipating delay in the project’s targeted commissioning. Instead of 2016, this may already skid to 2016.
The Subic coal plant is among the plants set in the pipeline to address Luzon grid’s increasing demand for power.
