Kashmir power cuts place residents in the dark
Consumers in outlying districts in Kashmir are getting electricity for barely four out of 24 hours. This is due to the Power Development Department’s unannounced and unscheduled power cuts in Kashmir that have reached crisis proportions.
Failing to come out with a curtailment schedule which at least could leave consumers forewarned, the PDD has not resorted to its stock, according to the Kashmir Observer. They explained that generation fell drastically during lean months that led to massive power cuts in Kashmir.
The central government which gets out every megawatt of hydel power produced in the state during months of high discharge leaves Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the latter, high and dry in harsh winters by its stingy policy on exporting power to the region.
