Japan to partially end feed-in tariff programme
The programme will be replaced by competitive bidding.
Japan's industry ministry eyes partially ending the country's feed-in tariff programme seven years after its introduction, the country's news agency reports.
The ministry plans to revised a law in 2020 to adopt a competitive bidding system for electricity generated by businesses using large-scale facilities, sources with knowledge of the matter said.
Additional burden on households and businesses brought about by the FIT programme is expected to reach $22.32b (JPY2.4t) in 2019.
The ministry hopes to start in-depth discussions on the FIT system overhaul at a meeting of experts within this month.
