India's rooftop solar developers mulls petition against discoms: report
Developers are unable to gain consent from discoms to supply open-access electricity.
The Distributed Solar Power Association, composed of rooftop solar developers in India, might file a petition before the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission as distribution companies (discoms) are not giving them the required connectivity, reported The Economic Times.
These developers hold open-access projects, which supply power directly to customers, but still require the consent of relevant discoms to do so. However, there has been pushback from discoms against them as they lose revenue from allowing so.
Because of this, around 1GW of solar projects in Haryana, India are unable to transmit power, and applications have been stalled since October.
“They (discoms) are attempting to block any open access project which they feel threatens their monopoly,” a big developer commented.
