India power generation clocks 5.04% growth
A cumulative growth of 5.04% in Indian energy generation was recorded during the first 10 months of the financial year 2010-11.
As compared to an actual generation of 6,36,920 million units registered during the same period of the previous fiscal, around 6,69,030 MU was generated during April-January 2010-11.
This was, however, slightly lower than the target, of 6,89,916 MU, for the period, as per the electrical energy generation data released by the Central Electricity Authority.
According to CEA, thermal, nuclear and hydro power generation exhibited growth rates of 3.46, 37.65 and 8.89 per cent, respectively, against the corresponding figures of 2009-10. In tandem, imports from Bhutan also exhibited a growth of 4.88 per cent, against the 5,204 MU brought in the same period last year.
During April-January 2010-11, against a cumulative import target of 6,244.22 MU for the period, 5,457.21 MU, or 87.4 per cent of the target, was actually wheeled from the eastern-neighboring kingdom.
While actual thermal generation stood at 5,45,232 MU, against the target of 5,68,205 MU and the corresponding last year`s figure of 5,26,997 MU, hydel generation was recorded at 97,721.6 MU, against the 10 months` cumulative goal of 97,292.7 MU, as well as the 89,742 MU registered in April-January 2009-10.
he cumulative nuclear generation during the period was 20,618.3 MU, against a target of 18,174 MU. Nuclear generation for the corresponding period of 2009-10 stood at 14,978 MU.
