India-Bangladesh Cooperation in the Power Sector
Mr. P. Uma Shankar, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, is leading a high-level delegation of Indian power sector experts to Bangladesh from 29th January to 1st February 2013.
During his visit, Mr. P. Uma Shankar will co-chair along with Secretary, Power Division of Bangladesh, the 5th meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Steering Committee on Power Cooperation.
This meeting will be preceded by the first Board meeting of the “India-Bangladesh Friendship Power Company”. The India-Bangladesh Friendship Power Company is a joint venture between NTPC Limited of India and Bangladesh Power Development Corporation, that has been formed to build the 1320 MW thermal power project at Rampal in Khulna.
In addition to reviewing the progress on the Rampal project, Indian Power Secretary will also discuss the progress in the procurement of 500 MW power from India, and initiatives to expand cooperation in the sector between India and Bangladesh.
