Bangladesh to protect poor's access to energy
Bangladesh is planning to frame a separate policy to protect poor peoples' right to energy.
Prime Minister Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury called upon the industrialists to use energy- efficient appliances in their factories to save energy so that the government could distribute that saved amount to the poor.
He was speaking at a seminar on "National capacity building for improving the energy efficiency of industrial boilers and furnaces" as the chief guest. The seminar was organised by Titas gas transmission and distribution company Ltd in collaboration of GIZ, Germany.
He pointed out that only 40 per cent people are enjoying the full energy facilities, although they are getting it at subsidized rates.
He asked the gas distribution agencies to take motivational programme for the business establishments to use energy-efficient industrial boilers and furnaces for gas conservation.
He directed the Titas authority to start 20 projects soon to demonstrate its benefits to the industrial users.
