Bangladesh govt eyes green energy to address demand
The government of Bangladesh has set its sights on promoting green energy to meet the growing energy demand.
Mohammad Enamul Haque, state minister for power and energy, announced this, adding that the sources of conventional energy are depleting fast and the developed nations are emphasising the promotion of renewable energy.
He said the government took the initiative to form ‘Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA)’ to promote the renewable energy across the country. “SREDA is now at the final stage,” he added.
Underscoring the need for introducing efficient management system in the power sector, Enamul Haque said efficient management can help reduce the gap between the demand and supply.
“But our demand is growing fast and the gap is unlikely to come down. This will be a great challenge for the government,” he quipped.
He said that the new technology has to be brought in the power sector and it has to be used professionally to meet the growing energy demand.
