
Bangladesh approves furnace oil-based power plants
Bangladesh's cabinet committee on purchase approved three furnace oil-based private power plants having a total generation capacity of 150 megawatt.
Proposal for appointment of a consultant for another project under Indian $1 billion Line of Credit was also approved at the meeting held at the Secretariat with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair.
Of the Independent Power Projects, the consortium of Rupali Engineers & Traders Ltd Bangladesh, the lead firm, and PT Priamanaya Indonesia, will implement two plants. These are at Singair in Manikganj and at Daulatpur of Nababganj in Dhaka district, each having 50MW capacity.
The government will purchase electricity at Tk 6.99 per kilowatt-hour from the plants for 15 years.
Consortium of Samoda Chemicals & Power Ltd will set up the other 50MW power plant in Munshiganj. The government will have to spend Tk 7.17/kWh to buy power from this plant.
