Philippine prepaid metering rules amended
The Philippines has amended the rules on prepaid electricity metering system.
The Energy Regulatory Commission has specified in the revised rules that prepaid metering shall already cover “all customer classifications.”
Another amendment in the PRES rules had been the regulator’s approval “on the use of all available types of technologies” in the implementation of the prepaid metering service.
The regulatory body nevertheless stipulated that there should be a “classification of the acceptable prepaid system” as based on established policies.
On the rates to be enforced, the ERC has proposed “adoption of the postpaid retail rate current at the particular month the credited load was consumed being the applicable prepaid rate.”
As to the remaining credits from previous month’s consumption, it was further explained that such “shall be adjusted based on the applicable postpaid retail rate in the succeeding month.”
