Pakistan to hold public hearings over proposed tariff changes

Pakistan's NEPRA will hold public hearings in Karachi for fuel and power purchase cost adjustments in electricty tariff.

To be conducted on March 12 and 13, the hearings of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority are based on the six different petitions of the Karachi Electric Supply Company

The representatives of the concerned quarters will oppose the KESC’s decision of an increased electricity tariff in the city already overburdened with soaring electricity bills.

On March 12, hearing sessions will be held for four petitions of the KESC for fuel-cost adjustment variations in the tariff for consumers from September to October 2011.

For the month of September 2011, the KESC has demanded a decrease of 62.760 paisas in per kilowatt hour-cost of electricity, while for October 2011, it demanded an increase of 111.828 paisas in per unit cost. For November 2011, the company demanded a decrease of 19.502 paisas in per unit cost while for December 2011, it demanded an increase of 27.777 paisas per unit.

On March 13, two of the petitions will be put forth for public’s considerations which are related to the quarterly adjustment in the tariff for the quarters ending in September 2011 and in December 2011.
