
Lord Prescott: Dezhou becoming leading energy city
Lord Prescott was impressed with was he saw in Dezhou City while witnessing the signing of a strategic agreement. The agreement between the British company NICG and Dezhou City aims to globalise the achievements of Dezhou.
After touring facilities in Dezhou, Lord Prsecott said, “With the scale of developments in Dezhou it is heading to be the leading global new energy city. It is a shining example of how new energy can create thriving industry and millions of jobs.”
Lord Prescott is in China preparing for the next UN climate change conference in Cancun in Mexico. Recently, he was a keynote speaker at the Economist China Summit and today he was in Dezhou.
“In December I will be in Cancun in Mexico as the Official Rapporteur for the Council of Europe and I am always looking around the world for examples of how any new climate change agreement can be implemented. Today I found a shining example in China in the city of Dezhou”, said Lord Prescott at a meeting with the Dezhou Mayor, Lei Jianguo.
Dezhou, in Shandong Province, has been celebrating its award as the International Solar City of the Year for 2010. It follows Adelaide, Oxford and Seoul. Dezhou is the major centre of new energy in China with over 100 companies involved in solar power and new energy.
At the signing the Mayor of Dezhou warmly accepted a proposal by Lord Prescott that Dezhou create an annual “New Energy Forum” in Dezhou to help inspire other cities around the world to follow the pioneering path developed by Dezhou.
