Towngas inks deals for natural gas trade and Danjin Expressway high-pressure pipeline
It will expand the interconnectivity of natural gas pipelines amongst cities in the Yangtze River Delta.
The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) signed project agreements that seek to expand the interconnection of natural gas pipelines in cities located in the Yangtze River Delta.
In a visit to Jintan, Changzhou, the agreements will include the development of the natural gas trade and the Danjin Expressway high-pressure pipeline.
Towngas discussed the potential of salt cavern resources as well as exploration of the salt cavern storage of hydrogen and energy storage.
The Jintan salt cavern storage facility has a cost-saving return of 70% per unit volume investment. It is one of the first-ever facilities in China for a city gas enterprise to spearhead the planning, investing, constructing, and operating of an underground gas storage facility.

In terms of its network, the Jintan salt cavern is the first city gas storage facility in the region to be integrated into PipeChina’s West-East Gas Pipeline and the Sichuan-East Gas Pipeline.
“These initiatives have played a crucial role in ensuring a stable gas supply and supporting the national energy security strategy. The gas supplied by Towngas in Hong Kong contains 49% hydrogen, and the Company has extensive experience in hydrogen transmission, storage, and utilisation," Martin Kee Wai-ngai, COO – Mainland Utilities of Towngas and Executive Director & COO of Towngas Smart Energy, weighed in.
"Towngas hopes to strengthen cooperation with Jintan District in the areas of salt cavern hydrogen storage and energy storage, and work together for mutual development,” he added.
