Tata Power Solar wins 50 MW solar plant project
Plant to be run by India’s largest power generator.
Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd., a unit of India’s largest industrial group, won a contract to build a solar plant for electricity producer NTPC Ltd. It will supply solar panels for the project and build the plant at Rajgarh in central Madhya Pradesh state by March 2014.
The new project may help NTPC meet targets since utilities and industrial energy users are required to get a portion of their electricity from renewables. It will also allow NTPC to double its solar capacity.
NTPC, a state-controlled utility, owns 41,000 MW of total capacity as India’s largest power generator. It plans to develop 1,000 MW more of renewables by 2017.
Tata Power Solar has built more than 70 MW of photovoltaic projects as a contractor.
