Taiwan’s offshore wind capacity exceeds 2 GW

It is the leading offshore wind market in Asia Pacific.

Taiwan’s total offshore wind farm installation reached 2.25 gigawatts (GW), achieving its 2.03 to 2.43 GW target in 2023 and making it the leading market in the Asia Pacific region, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

In a statement, the ministry said the total capacity is composed of 283 wind turbines. It is also one of the few markets that breached the 2 GW mark in offshore wind capacity.

Taiwan’s restricted weather windows allow the construction of offshore wind farms to only six to seven months.

The ministry also offers a one-year grace period for grid connection for Phase 2 developers in administrative contracts.

“Despite the impact of multiple typhoons in 2023, which affected the progress of wind farm construction, the construction teams persisted, optimizing weather windows and striving for continuous construction,” it said.
