SJVN unit, AM Green ink 4,500-MW RE deal for green ammonia facilities

Solar and wind plants will be set up.

India’s SJVN, through its wholly owned subsidiary SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) has signed a memorandum of understanding with AM Green Ammonia for the setting up of renewable energy projects in India, which will be used to support the latter’s green ammonia facilities.

In a statement, SJVN said its subsidiary will explore establishing 4,500 megawatts (MW) of clean energy facilities, which include 2,500 to 3,000 MW of solar projects, and 1,500 to 2,000 MW of wind projects over three phases.

These are seen to provide around 11,500 million units of supply on an annual basis, SJVN said.

AM Green, a company under Greenko Group, is developing one of the largest green ammonia platforms in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. These will be developed in two phases starting with a capacity of one million tons per annum, then ramping up the capacity to five million tons per annum by 2030 which is equivalent to one million tonnes per annum of hydrogen.

SGEL currently has a renewable energy portfolio of about 7.2 gigawatts under various stages of development.

The deal with AM Green is SGEL’s first venture into commercial and industrial segment.
