Singapore takes delivery of first LNG shipment
LNG delivery broadens diversity in Singapore’s energy supplies.
The cargo was delivered to Singapore's first LNG receiving terminal at Jurong Island operated by Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd (SLNG) on board a Q-Max LNG carrier.
Singapore has decided to import LNG to diversify its energy supply sources and enhance its energy security. The LNG terminal on Jurong Island, southwest of Singapore’s mainland will have an initial throughput capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per annum. It will have a final annual capacity of over 6 million tones.
Qatargas said this LNG delivery will further strengthen the relationship between Qatar and Singapore as well as between SLNG and Qatargas over the long-term
"The start-up of SLNG's first LNG terminal, located in the heart of South East Asia, is a significant milestone meeting the growing demand for energy in Singapore and we at Qatargas are very proud to have played a contributing role," said Khalid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Qatargas CEO.
The Singapore LNG Terminal is the second LNG terminal in South East Asia to procure commissioning cargo from Qatargas, which has provided commissioning cargoes to 10 LNG terminals, including Singapore.
