Singapore short of manpower for energy sector
Needs 2,500 technical personnel to remedy problem.
The Power Sector Manpower Taskforce (PSMT) recommends establishing a sector-wide branding exercise and a Centralised Training Institute to meet manpower training needs. A more comprehensive framework has also been recommended to attract and retain talent in the sector.
The recommendations will help support manpower changes expected in the sector in the coming years.
Second Minister for Trade & Ministry S. Iswaran said Singapore needs a good 2,400 to 2,500 technical manpower for the industry.
“We need people from the ITE background, polytechnic background and university background. The opportunity is there, we need to make sure through a branding exercise which is there to communicate to younger Singaporeans what the opportunity is and position the industry in the right way,” he said.
