Sembcorp to build 200MW energy storage on Jurong Island

The project completion is expected by the end of the year.

Sembcorp Industries, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Sembcorp Utilities, has been chosen by Singapore’s Energy Market Authority to build a 200-megawatt (MW)/ 200-megawatt-hour (MWh) energy storage system on Jurong Island.

In a statement last week, Sembcorp Industries said the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

The company’s battery storage portfolio in Singapore and the UK is now at 474MW/624MWh, making it one of Asia’s largest battery operators.

It added that this brings the company’s total renewables global portfolio in operation and under development to seven gigawatts (GW).

“The Group remains focused on its 2025 target of 10GW gross installed renewable energy capacity,” Sembcorp said.

Sembcorp said that the announcement is not expected to have a material impact on its earnings per share and net asset value per share for the fiscal year ending on 31 December 2022.
