Reliance Power synchronises 300MW Maharashtra unit with grid

Reliance Power has synchronised a 300-mw unit of its Butibori thermal power project with the electricity grid.

The unit also increased the company's operating capacity to 1540 mw.

Power generated from the plant near Nagpur in Maharashtra will be distributed to industrial and distribution utilities in Maharashtra.

The second unit of the 600 mw plant is on track for commissioning before the end of this calendar year, a company statement said.

"The projects under construction are progressing satisfactorily and with our diversified portfolio of coal, gas, hydro, wind and solar projects, we are well on track to emerge as the largest integrated private sector power company in India," said Reliance Power chief executive officer J P Chalasani

The ash generated by the Bultibori plant will be utilised by Reliance group's cement plant. Reliance Power has incurred an investment of over Rs 3,600 crore in the Butibori plant.
