Queensland’s Kennedy Energy Park starts operations
This is the country’s first large-scale hybrid renewable energy facility.
The Kennedy Energy Park in the Australian state of Queensland has begun operations comprised of wind, solar, and battery projects in a single facility.
In a statement, Eurus Energy said the project, which it jointly owned with Australian renewable energy firm Windlab, is composed of 43.2 megawatts (W) of wind, 15 MW of solar, and 2 MW/4 MW-hour of battery.
This is also Eurus Energy Group’s first large-scale hybrid renewable energy facility.
Eurus said a hybrid facility reduces “weather-induced fluctuation in production.”
“Furthermore, the project site experiences strong evening winds which lessen during the daytime hours. As a result, a strong complementary relationship between the wind energy and solar energy production is expected to provide stability surpassing that of either a wind or solar plant alone,” the company said.
The energy park will also sell its power to Queensland government-owned power firm CS Energy Co., under a power purchase agreement.
