Punjab awards solar projects totaling 250 MW
Will invest up to US$500 million in projects.
The Indian state of Punjab awarded the projects to 26 solar development companies. It aims to produce 1GW from renewable resources over four years, with a quarter of that total coming from solar energy.
The official letters of awards were handed over to the 26 companies by Sukhbir Singh Badal, the deputy chief minister of Punjab.
Of the 26 developers, 18 proposed projects of between 1MW and 4 MW while the remaining 11 will undertake projects generating between 5 MW to 30 MW.
Punjab has around 9 MW of installed solar power generating capacity. In addition to the commitment to reaching 1 GW in solar capacity, the Punjab Energy Development Authority is expected to shortly award around 300 MW in biomass capacity agreements.
