PT Jawa Satu Power starts 1,760 MW LNG Power Plant in Indonesia
It could produce electricity for 4.3 million households.
PT Jawa Satu Power started the operations of a 1,760-megawatt liquified natural gas-fired (LNG) power plant in Indonesia.
The project, located in Karawang which is 100 kilometres east of Jakarta, has a 25-year contract, with PT PLN as its off-taker.
The project can produce electricity that could meet the demands of around 4.3 million households.
“Indonesia relies on coal-fired power generation to meet 60% of its energy demands, and it is becoming increasingly vital that the country introduces new solutions such as a shift to renewable energy sources and the development of LNG gas-fired power plants that have a lower environmental impact,” Sojitz said.

PT Jawa Satu Power is 40% owned by state-owned PT Pertamina and 40% owned by Marubeni. The remaining 20% is owned by Sojitz Corporation.
The Pertamina-led consortium signed the 25-year purchase agreement with PT PLN in January 2017, with the plant construction starting in December 2018.
Aside from the power plant, the consortium, including Mitsui O.S.K Lines, also completed the PT Jawa Satu Regas, which developed the floating storage and regasification unit with a storage capacity of 170,000 cubic metres.
