Octopus Australia secures land for 1 GW Merina Wind Farm

It now has 35,000 hectares of land within the South-West NSW Renewable Energy Zone.

Octopus Australia has acquired an additional 28,000 hectares of land new Deniliquin in New South Wales to serve as the site of the $2.33b (A$3.5b) one-gigawatt Merina Wind Farm.

In a statement, the company said the land is adjacent to the 400-megawatt Saltbush Wind Farm which it also owns.

This development brings the company’s total secured land in the South-West NSW Renewable Energy Zone to 35,000 hectares which is capable of generating a total of 1.5 GW of power from the two dwin farms.

“These cornerstone wind assets supplemented with Octopus’ storage and solar developments across the (National Electric Market), are designed to be an integrated, multi-technology portfolio that can offer truly unique and differentiated Power Purchase Agreement products to energy customers and sustainable value to investors,” Octopus Australia Co-Managing Director Darren Brown said.

Octopus’ operating and development portfolio is currently valued at over $7.3b (A$11b), including the Fulham Solar Farm and Battery and the Blind Creek Solar Farm and Battery which are both expected to start construction later this year.
