NTPC tenders 2GW of wind and solar power capacity in India

Firms will be allowed to bid for projects ranging from 50MW to 500MW.

The state-held Indian thermal power group National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has issued tenders for 2,000 MW of wind and solar power, that will replace existing thermal power capacity. Interested companies will be allowed to bid for projects ranking between 50 MW and 500 MW in various locations and winners will enter into a 25-year power purchase contract with NTPC’s power trading arm NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN). The selected projects will be built under the framework of the Build, Own and Operate (BOO) model and are expected to be commissioned by March 2022.

The Indian government plans to add 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2022 (of which 100 GW for solar energy and 60 GW for wind energy) and plans to multiply the auctions in the next months. NTPC's current total capacity stands at 53,651 MW and the company targets to install another 5 GW over the 2018-2019 period.
