
NTPC starts second unit of 1.6GW coal-fired plant
This raises the company’s installed capacity to over 51GW.
Indian state-owned thermal power generation company NTPC has commissioned the second 800MW unit of its 1,600MW Lara supercritical coal-fired power plant in Chhattisgarh, India, whose first 800MW unit was commissioned in September 2019. This commissioning raises NTPC's installed capacity to 51,155MW (to 62,910 MW for the entire group, including minority stakes in other power plants).
NTPC currently operates 70 power plants (including stakes in subsidiaries and joint ventures), of which 24 are coal-fired, 7 gas-fired CCGT, and two hydro. The group aims to reach a total installed capacity of 130GW by 2032.
