Northland reports CO2 leak at Hai Long Offshore project

Seventeen workers were affected.

Northland Power Inc. has confirmed that an incident occurred at the Hai Long Changhua onshore substation, part of its offshore wind project in Taiwan.

Based on initial information, the Canada-based company said a leak of carbon dioxide from the fire suppression system was cited, which affected approximately 17 on-site workers.

Northland said emergency services were immediately notified, whilst the affected workers were given first aid before being brought to nearby hospitals.

The company said the leak has been contained and its project team is working with local authorities to investigate the incident.

“All work at the onshore substation is suspended until further notice whilst investigations are ongoing,” Northland said.
