New 64 MW gas turbine unit commences operation in Uzbekistan

The new power plant unit required $155.7m to be developed.

A new gas turbine unit with a 64-megawatt (MW) capacity has started operations at the Tashkent Thermal Power Plants JSC, according to the Joint-Stock Company Thermal Power Plants.

In a statement, the company said the power plant said the new unit cost $155.7m to build, with Turkish company “Çalik Enerji” as the project’s general contractor.

The project also used a highly efficient gas turbine by Japanese firm Mitsubishi which will reduce the productions costs by lowering fuel consumption.

The operation of the new plant will boost the energy centre’s electricity production by an additional 515.6 million kilowatt-hours.
