Marubeni, PT Pertamina (Persero) to develop BECCS in Indonesia
The companies entered an MOU to develop decabonisation projects for the country.
Marubeni Corporation and Indonesian state-owned firm PT Pertamina (Persero) entered a memorandum of understanding to develop decarbonisation projects for Indonesia which include bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS).
In a statement, Marubeni said the firms will be promoting carbon dioxide capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Under the memorandum, PT Pertamina and Marubeni will work on decarbonisation projects which include the BECCS project at Marubeni’s pulp mill in Indonesia.
These projects will produce biomass fuel and create carbon credits, it said.
Marubeni said PT Pertamina has committed to contribute to the Indonesian government’s 2060 carbon neutrality target through the reduction of greenhouse emissions by 30% from 2010 levels and development of 10.2-gigawatt renewable energy facilities by 2026.
