Malakoff's Tanjung Bin to boost power generation by 1100MW
Tanjung Bin coal-fired station's current generating capacity of 2,000MW will increase to 3,100MW primarily due to its new 1,000MW power plant.
The power plant was awarded by the Energy Commission of Malaysia in June last year to
Tanjung Bin's operator, Malakoff.
Malakoff said with its completion, Tanjung Bin will further solidify its position as the largest coal-fired plant in South-East Asia.
Malakoff said the generating capacity will be make available to the off-taker, Tenaga Nasional Bhd, under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
It said the additional generating capacity was expected to meet the increasing power demand in the Iskandar region, which was projected to surge from 1,479MW in 2010 to 2,254MW by 2020.
