Mainstream and Someva secure investigation permit for 500 MW wind farm in NSW

The project can power around 300,000 homes once operational.

Global renewable firm Mainstream Renewable Power and Australia-based developer Someva Renewables secured a permit to investigate the development of an onshore wind farm with a potential capacity of around 500 megawatts.

In a statement, Aken Horizons ASA, the majority owner of Mainstream, said the permit for an onshore wind farm at Sunny Corner was issued by the Forestry Corporation of New South Wales following a 15-month competitive tender and selection process.

The project, which is 51% owned by Mainstream and 49% held by Someva, situated in the Sunny Corner State Forest will be one of the first wind farms to be located within the New South Wales State Plantation Forest.

Once operational, the project could power around 300,000 homes and reduce around one million tonnes of carbon.

The investigation stage would entail the installation of a met mast, and consultation with local communities, First Nations people, forest users, councils, and businesses.

Once the stage is completed, the project will proceed with the normal development process of planning approval applications from the state government.
