Kedah aims to become solar energy state
Now producing solar panels on a large scale.
The Malaysian state of Kedah plans to turn the state into a solar energy consumer, said Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir. The state government will install solar panels on state government buildings in a move to reduce consumption of electricity generated in the conventional way, he said.
Mukhriz said Kedah could be regarded as one of the world’s largest producers of solar panels, having two huge solar panel manufacturers in the Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP), and there was no reason for the state not to use solar energy.
He said the state government was also looking at a proposal to install LED lights within state government buildings. Mukhriz believes the combination of solar panel and LED will help to reduce Kedah’s consumption of energy.
He noted there was also a proposal for solar panels to be installed in village houses for the supply of electricity.
