India to lend $200M for Sri Lanka's 500MW coal power plant
India will extend financial support to Sri Lanka on setting up a 500MW coal based power project in the Trincomalee region of Sri Lanka through Trincomalee Power Company Limited.
The Government of India's line of credit for the project totals US$ 200 million.
This is meant to enable the Sri Lankan government to fulfill its commitments under the implementation agreement, including the construction of a jetty at Sampur and transmission lines from Sampur to Habarana.
Both India and Sri Lanka had been upbeat about setting up the 2x250 MW coal based power project, which will be a 50:50 joint venture company of India's NTPC and Sri Lanka's Ceylon Electricity Board.
Once the schedule has been prepared, it will be dove-tailed with the power project development schedule to create a comprehensive and integrated plan for the upcoming 500 MW plant.
