Haiyang nuclear plant starts work for two new units
The State Development and Reform Commission has approved Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant’s application to carry out preliminary works for its Units 3 and 4. The plant earlier passed the site acceptance of the National Nuclear Security Administration of its Unit 1 NI excavation in Phase I on 21 February.
China Power Investment’s Shandong Nuclear Power Company and Westinghouse Electric broke ground for its units 1 and 2 of the Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant on 30 July 2008, which are scheduled to go online in 2014.
Said to be one of the most highly advanced nuclear power plants being constructed in the world, the Haiyang facility deploys Westinghouse's AP1000 technology. The Westinghouse consortium is working in partnership with the State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation Ltd. (SNTPC) to construct four nuclear power facilities in China, all using AP1000 technology.
