Goi Thermal Power Station Unit 1 starts commercial operation

This has 780 MW generating capacity.

JERA Co., Inc. (JERA) has announced that Goi Thermal Power Station Unit 1 began its commercial operation on 1 August.

“JERA Co., Inc, ENEOS Power Corporation, and Kyushu Electric Power Company, through Goi United Generation LLC, have been moving forward with replacement work at Goi Thermal Power Station. We hereby announce that Goi Thermal Power Station Unit 1 has begun commercial operation,” JERA said in a statement.

Goi Thermal Power Station Unit 1 uses an liquified natural gas (LNG)-fired gas turbine combined cycle system and has a generating capacity of 780 megawatts (MW).

JERA said Units 2 and 3 of the plant, which also have 780 MW each, are scheduled to start operations by November 2024, and March 2025, respectively.

"The three companies will continue to move steadily forward with state-of-the-art replacement work at Goi Thermal Power Station," JERA said.

Earlier, JERA identified LNG, renewables, and hydrogen & ammonia as the company’s three pillars that will support the company’s pathway for 2035 and support its net zero emission goals by 2050. Specifically on LNG, it targets over 35 million tonnes of transaction volume by 2035 as one of the largest LNG-integrated value chain players globally.
