Global wind power sector needs over 574,000 technicians by 2027
Annual capacity additions will double in the next five years to 155 GW.
The wind energy industry needs more than 574,000 technicians for commercial and industrial, operation and maintenance to support the expansion of the sector.
In the Global Wind Workforce Outlook 2023-2027, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) said over 240,000 of the needed roles would be coming from new recruits to the industry from the education and recruitment of transferring from another sector such as offshore oil and gas.

“A strong workforce and healthy supply chain will be crucial to the colossal growth of wind capacity in this decade. It is vital that the growing workforce is provided with the tools to train properly, with an approach that puts health and safety at the heart of industry growth,” said GWEC CEO Ben Backwell.
Wind energy installation will double to 155 gigawatts (GW) in 2027 from 78 (GW) in 2022, bringing the total wind capacity to over 1,500 GW.
GWO CEO Jakob Lau Holst added that the report emphasised “the need for a renewed focus on entry-level skills that match the needs of employers and complements the existing capabilities people bring from other sectors and education systems.”
