ENEC and KEPCO to co-invest in nuclear plants in emerging nations
The partnership emphasises nuclear energy's role as a clean electricity source.
The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and the Korea Electric Power Cooperation (KEPCO) signed a memorandum of understanding to look into co-investing in developing nuclear power plants in emerging countries.
In a statement, ENEC said the agreement will leverage the parties’ expertise in various fields such as efficient, safety and quality development, implementation of nuclear power plants, and the transmission and distribution infrastructure to integrate them into the grid.
“This partnership marks the next step in the two nations’ collaboration to spearhead nuclear energy development in other countries by providing the relevant expertise to accelerate the deployment of this crucial source of clean baseload electricity,” the statement read.
This also highlights the role of nuclear energy in resolving climate change and meeting net-zero targets.
The MOU was signed by ENEC Managing Director and CEO Mohamed Al Hammadi, and KEPCO President and CEO Dong-Cheol Kim.
