EGAT and BIG collaborate on hydrogen storage and transport tech development

This will support EGAT’s Hydrogen Blending Demonstration Project.

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) partnered with Bangkok Industrial Gas (BIG) to develop advanced hydrogen storage and transportation technologies as part of its project to co-fire hydrogen in its power plants.

In a statement, EGAT Governor Thepparat Theppitak said the two-year partnership with BIG for the company’s Hydrogen Blending Demonstration Project will involve examining, analysing and evaluating the feasibility of the technologies for its power plants.

The assessment will entail cost evaluations, proposal of suitable models, and assessment of impacts, risks and measures for stakeholders.

BIG Managing Director Piyabut Charuphen said this collaboration is aligned with Thailand’s Power Development Plan, adding that hydrogen will play a crucial role in Thailand’s carbon neutrality goal by 2050 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.
