Contractors fail to expedite critical works at NTPC's Vindhyachal STPP-IV
Three contractors, namely -- National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC), TRF Limited (TRF) and Simplex
Infrastructures Limited -- have recently come under the scanner for failing to expedite the pace of their respective works at NTPC's
Vindhyachal super thermal power project (STPP)-IV, located in the Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh.
8At the project level, NBCC's tardy progress has resulted in a delay in completion of cooling towers, whereas TRF and Simplex have been held
accountable for the slippages faced in works of the coal handling plant (CHP) and coal bunkers, respectively.
8To make matters worse, the developer has been facing manpower shortage at the project site. There is an urgent need to augment manpower in
order to conclude coal piping and mill erection in unit 11, along with turbine erection works in unit 12 at the earliest.
8To note, stage-IV of the Vindhyachal STPP comprises of two units each of 500 MW capacity and the entire project is linked to the Nigahi coal
mines of Northern Coalfields Limited. The beneficiary states of the project, other than Madhya Pradesh, are Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat,
Goa, Daman and Diu as well as Dadar and Nagar Haveli.
