CLP Power, Chinachem Group ink new sustainability deal
The MoU will assign CLP Power in the decarbonisation of Chinachem facilities.
CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) Chinachem Group (Chinachem) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for an extended collaboration in energy efficiency, decarbonisation, and electrification as a commitment to Chinachem’s development directions.
Under the new agreement, CLP Power will assist Chinachem in decarbonising a pilot Energy Management System operated by 5G technology and a big data analytics solution at Nina Mall. CLP will also execute energy audits for its new Kwai Chung and Tung Chung facilities. With their expertise, the Hong Kong power company will assist Chinachem in the replacement of traditional diesel generators with battery energy storage systems (BESS) for new zero-carbon energy projects.
In addition, both parties have agreed to cooperate in various sustainability initiatives to expand Chinachem’s operational efficiency, Hong Kong’s carbon-neutral goals, and CCG 3050+ decarbonisation targets.
“The signing of this MoU will further strengthen the energy-saving and carbon reduction partnership between CLP Power and Chinachem Group by establishing a framework for implementing innovative and effective emissions reduction measures,” Joseph Law, Managing Director of CLP Power, stated.
Chinachem and CLP Power already established a partnership on electrification and energy-saving projects with a five-year collaborative agreement on Smart and Green Initiatives in 2019. Through their cooperation, the project saved an estimated 14 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity.
