Chinese province Jiangsu OKs 6.7GW of offshore wind projects

Total investment for the 24 projects could hit $18.05b.

Reuters reports that local media said the Jiangsu province of China has approved 24 offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 6.7GW. The projects are in line with the province’s plan to launch 10GW of offshore wind plants, known as its “Three Gorges on Sea” project.

The 24 projects will have a total investment of $18.05b. They will be developed by companies such as China Energy Group, China General Nuclear Power Corp (CGN), China Huaneng Group, and State Power Investment Corp (SPIC).

Jiangsu had 56 wind farms under operation by 2018, with online capacity reaching over 8.6GW.

The province is one of China’s planned bases for large-scale wind power generation, joined by Hebei, Jilin, Gansu, Xinjiang, and Inner Mongolia.
