
Chinese firm set to rehabilitate key Philippine power plant
Chinese dominate bidding for Agus VI hydroelectric power plant.
China’s Guangxi Hydroelectric Construction Bureau and local joint venture partner ITP Construction Inc. submitted the best offer for the contract to rehabilitate and raise the power output of the Agus VI hydroelectric power plant.
Agus 6 or the Maria Christina Hydroelectric Power Plant is located west of Iligan Cit in Lanao del Norte province on the island of Mindanao.
The Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation ot PSALM, a state-owned firm tasked to manage and privatize the remaining power assets of National Power Corporation, said Guangxi Hydroelectric submitted the lowest offer of P1US$36.7 million for the upgrading of Units 1 and 2 of the Agus VI power plant. The government wants Units 1 and 2 to be uprated to 34.5 MW each (from 25 MW) and to be fit for power generation for another 30 years.
The other bid was from a group consisting of HydroChina ZhongNan, Harbin Electric Machinery Co. Ltd. and BSP & Co. Inc. PSALM said a third potential bidder did not qualify.
