China's Fuqing-4 nuclear plant achieves first criticality

Fuel loading began in June 2017.

China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has announced that the Fuqing-4 nuclear power plant in the Fujian province of China has reached criticality, according to Enerdata. CNNC started loading fuel in June 2017 and the project is now expected to be commissioned later in 2017.

"The Fuqing site will accommodate six 1,000 MW reactors. The first one was commissioned in November 2014, the second unit in October 2015 and the third one in October 2016. In April 2015, the National Development and Reform Commission of China gave its final approval for the construction of Fuqing-5 and Fuqing-6, which are expected to be commissioned in 2019 and 2020, respectively," Enerdata said.

The Fuqing nuclear power plant project is owned by China Nuclear Power Company (51%), Huadian Fuxin Energy Company (39%) and Fujian Investment and Development Group (10%).
