China's CEEC to invest $500m in Ugandan solar plant
The project could raise the installed capacity in Uganda by 50%.
The Chinese state-owned company China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) plans to invest US$500m in the construction of a 500 MW of solar PV in Uganda. The solar PV project would be built by China Gezhouba International Company (part of the CEEC group) under an EPC contract including designing, procuring, constructing and performing trials for the project, and would be developed in two phases. The location and schedule of the project remain unclear. It would raise the installed capacity in Uganda by 50% (1,055 MW at the end of 2018).
In 2019, two solar power plants were commissioned in Uganda, a 24 MW solar project developed by Great Lakes Africa Energy, Xsabo Power and Uganda Electricity Transmission Company in southern Uganda and a 10 MW solar PV project developed by Tryba Energy and built by Metka EGN in Bufulbi.
