China mulls to build first solar power station in space
An experimental space power plant is on the works in Chongqing.
China is eyeing to build the first solar power station in space which could tap on the energy of the sun’s rays without disruption from the atmosphere, according to China’s Science and Technology Daily.
An early experimental space power plant is on the works in Chongqing to prepare for the solar power station which will orbit the earth at 36,000 km
According to Pang Zhihao, a researcher from the China Academy of Space Technology Corporation, the solar power station could supply a source of clean energy for humans as it could provide energy that is six times the intensity of solar farms on Earth, helping electric cars to charge at any time of the day.
Scientists in China are yeing to launch small to medium-sized solar power stations in the stratosphere to generate electricity between 2021 and 2025. By 2030, they will target to construct a megawatt-level space solar power station.
