China and Finland tie up for four energy pilot projects

Projects include biomass gasification and micro-energy grids.

China and Finland will collaborate on four energy sector pilot projects, following Finland president Sauli Niinistö’s state visit to China, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland revealed.

According to an announcement, the four projects announced by the National Energy Administration (NEA) are the Energy Internet in Lunan, geothermal in Zhoukou, biomass gasification for coal fueled power plant in Huarun, and the micro-energy grids in Nansha.

In accordance with the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by the Finnish and Chinese ministries in June 2017, NEA opened a China-wide project application round, which attracted twenty applications in total.

A Finnish-Chinese panel, consisting of representatives from Business Finland, universities, and corporates, selected the final four projects.

Chinese and Finnish energy companies and other stakeholders will now launch concrete measures to carry out these four projects, the agency added.
