CEM launches project to improve low voltage network
All low voltage distribution boxes damaged by water immersion during typhoon Hagupit that hit Macao last year have been repaired and replaced by CEM.
CEM also raised its distribution boxes at Porto Interior up to 60 centimeters higher.
According to CEM Network Operations & Maintenance Department Senior Manager Billy Chan, CEM paid visits to the Residents Association to hear residents’ opinions, and started construction when the low voltage distribution boxes at Porto Interior suffered water immersion and a power failure last year.
In view of the serious flooding that may occur due to typhoons, CEM will make power deployment and arrange the repairmen according to the forecast on flooding, to deploy resources to deal with emergency maintenances and the aftermaths. To handle the emergency maintenance as soon as possible and plan the aftermath work as a whole, the current contractor will also be present at the emergency scene.
The low voltage distribution network project costs nearly US$7 million.
To cope with the demand of economic development and the needs of the people’s livelihood, CEM is launching low-voltage power distribution project every year.
CEM is now also redoing the low voltage distribution boxes in Avenida Almeida Ribeiro, Rua dos Ervanários, Patane District and Praia do Manduco. A total of 350 low voltage column boxes will be renewed. The improvement projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2009.
