Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited kicks off $1.3b thermal project in India

It will take charge of the 4GW Yadadri thermal project's EPC.

Enerdata reported that Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has started the execution of the Rup204bn (US$3.1bn) 4,000 MW Yadadri supercritical thermal power plant project (Damaracherla, Nalgonda district,Telangana, India). Once commissioned, the coal-fired power station will be owned by the Indian state utility Telangana State Power Generation (TSGENCO) and will encompass five units with an installed capacity of 800 MW each. This is BHEL's single largest order so far and the five units are set for commissioning in 2020-2021.

Under the framework of the agreement signed back in 2015 with TSGENCO, BHEL will be in charge of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the facility. BHEL will manufacture the required equipment at its Trichy, Haridwar, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Ranipet, Bangalore and Jhansi facilities. So far, the company has commissioned around 86% of the Telanganese coal-fired generation capacity.
