Bangladesh's Bibiyana-3 power project awarded to Marubeni-Hyundai group

Bangladesh's cabinet committee on purchase has awarded the Bibiyana-3 gas-fired power plant project to consortium of Marubeni Corporation and Hyundai Engineering.

It will have a capacity between 300 MW and 450 MW.

The committee gave the approval at its meeting at the Cabinet Division, with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair.

Six companies contested the bid to set up the public sector power plant at Bibiyana in Habiganj. Of them, the consortium of Marubeni and Hyundai was considered as the only responsive bidder.

The Power Division proposal said bids by five Chinese companies were declared technically non-responsive as part of their bids fell under the rejection clause of the tender document.

Japan Bank for International Cooperation will finance the Tk 2,923 crore scheme under buyer's credit.
