
Bangladesh PM pushes for environment-friendly energy
Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina emphasized the need for more renewable energy production such as wind and solar power to protect the environment.
She made the remarks when a delegation of the Energy Holdings International Incorporation, a multinational energy company, called on her at her office on Tuesday morning.
Vice- Chairman and Chief Financial Officer of Energy Holdings International Incorporation Jalal Al Ghani led the delegation.
Ghani said his company is interested helping Bangladesh meet increased demand of power.
Bangladesh has been implementing short, mid and long term plans to raise power production in the country,Hasina noted. As a result, the country witnessed a record 6,102 MW of electricity.
The Prime Minister said her government during its previous term for the first time allowed the private sector to generate power through setting up Haripur and Meghnaghat Power Plants and enacted necessary law to this end.
She said the previous Awami League government increased electricity generation to 4300 MW thanks to various initiatives of the government.
